Structured Authoring Techniques Consultancy Services

Structured authoring is a methodology for writing and arranging content using strict rules to control the way the text is marked up, and with the intention of using the semantics of document elements as a basis for markup. Structured authoring separates content from presentation; information is labelled according to its purpose. This type of authoring is sometimes called content-based writing.

Structured authoring is attracting a lot of interest in technical communication, because it promises a number of business benefits, including improved documentation process efficiency, usability and consistency.

It is a dramatically different approach to conventional style-based technical authoring; new skills and techniques need to be learned. The most appropriate workflow needs to be devised, and new tools need to be learnt.

This Web Site

This Web site is delivered to you as XHTML, but in the background, a lot of clever design and construction ideas are making some complex things happen transparently. For example, much of this site is written and updated in DITA, and 'transformed' to XHTML on the Web server when you ask for a page.
